About This Trip
Discover the rugged charm of Wales on this 6 day, 5 night walking adventure through two of its most loved regions: the Brecon Beacons and the Pembrokeshire Coast. Your journey begins in Abergavenny and ends in Carmarthen - both a direct train ride away from London - and features daily walks that highlight Wales’ mountain vistas, peaceful valleys, and dramatic shoreline.
Along the way, you’ll lose yourself in the story-filled bookshops of Hay-on-Wye, wander misty waterfall trails, sip Welsh whisky, and spend time in St Davids—home to one of Britain’s most enchanting cathedrals. Expect lots of fresh air and plenty of Welshcakes shared along the route. For those craving a little more sunshine and salty air, join our optional 3-day extension in Tenby. Make your way into this postcard-worthy harbor town on an epic hike along dramatic coastal cliffs with your group, and then spend the rest of your time immersing yourself in Tenby’s classic seaside charm.
With a dedicated local guide leading the way, you can simply relax into the landscape and enjoy the company of women who value slow, meaningful exploration just as much as you do. It’s a soul-filling way to experience one of the UK’s most captivating corners – full of inviting towns, iconic walks, and moments that linger long after you’re home.
- Settling into charming Welsh inns each evening, surrounded by warm hospitality and cozy countryside comforts.
- Reaching the summit of Pen-Y-Fan, the tallest peak in South Wales, and taking in sweeping views of the Brecon Beacons.
- Wandering through the world-famous bookshops of Hay-on-Wye and discovering hidden literary gems. Maybe pick up a book or two to enjoy during the rest of your journey!
- Savoring Welsh specialties—from bakery-fresh Welshcakes to local cheeses and hearty pub meals.
- Experiencing the beauty and stillness of choral evensong inside St Davids Cathedral.
- Strolling beneath towering waterfalls on peaceful woodland trails in the heart of the national park.
- Relaxing into the ease of guided travel, where your days flow naturally, support is always close at hand, and knowledge about the region is only an ask away.
- Sharing the trail with a group of adventurous, independent women!
Wales is a place where rugged peaks meet sea-washed cliffs, where centuries-old villages hum with stories, and where every hiking path feels like a new page in an old fairytale. It’s a land shaped by nature, and by the people who call it home. Here, you can walk ancient trails, taste locally crafted food, and immerse yourself in a culture rooted in history and myth.
But Wales isn’t just picturesque—it’s also deeply committed to sustainable, responsible tourism. The country prioritizes protecting natural landscapes so visitors help preserve Wales’s beauty, not overwhelm it. Visiting means you’re supporting local Welsh communities and businesses while exploring responsibly—helping preserve the landscapes, culture, and traditions that make Wales so unforgettable.
This journey features moderate hikes suitable for women with a reasonable level of fitness. Trails range from well-marked mountain paths and rolling valley walks to cliff-top and coastal trails, with some elevation gain on peaks like Pen-Y-Fan. Terrain can include uneven surfaces, rocky sections, and occasional muddy paths, but your guide will work to ensure the pace and route suit the group. The following are a few descriptions of this trip's major routes:
Day 1: The hike up Little Skirrid is less than a mile each way, with approx. 600ft of elevation gain.
Day 2: Brecon Beacons circular hike (~8.5 miles with about 2500ft elevation gain) up into the hills. Lots of elevation gain, but very well travelled paths and spectacular views.
Day 4: A circular hike through woodland on well marked trails, for approximately 5.5 miles. Easygoing and with stunning tranquil waterfalls.
Day 5: Follow the undulating coastal path along the cliffs and beaches of the Pembrokeshire coast to Solva. The distance will be roughly 5 miles.
Day 6 (Tenby extension hike): Shrinkle Haven to Tenby is roughly 5 miles following the well-maintained and well-marked coastal path along undulating clifftop tracks. It is a true coastal path, meaning it has several short, steep ascents and descents as it winds in and out of coves.
The easiest way to reach your group’s meeting point is to take a direct train from London Paddington Station to Gloucester, where you will be met by your guide and group. We recommend flying into London Heathrow and arriving one day early at the very least, as your group will be meeting on the morning of October 4th. Arriving early will ensure you'll be able to meet the group on time in case of any flight delays and give you time to rest up before your adventure.
To return to London, you'll take a direct train from the end point of your journey - Carmarthen. If you're staying with us for the 3-day extension, you'll train back to London from Tenby.
